When I started Barrel & Flame I wanted to make a different kind of candle and candle company. I researched what types of wax most large candle makers were using. What I typically found is that they were using high soy-based waxes that weren't all that clean burning, leaving soot and extra smoke when lit. So I decided to go with a better, and more expensive, blend of soy and coconut based waxes. I believe these waxes offer a much stronger hot throw than soy wax alone. This wax blend has also been shown to emit far less chemicals, such as estrogen, benzene, and heavy metals than all-soy based wax.
Fragrance is obviously the main reason people buy and make scented candles! So I wanted to find the safest, most natural fragrances available. All of the fragrances in my candles are Phthalate free and most are Vanillin 0%-1% concentration.
I also wanted to be mindful of the environment. So instead of just going the usual route of offering recyclable containers, I wanted to offer reusable containers. My candle containers are 100% reusable as glassware for regular and highball cocktail glasses and are made by Libbey Glass company!
Most all of my candles are one-of-a-kind fragrances created by me. I have custom blended fragrances and wax color to create a one of a kind candle. That means that every candle will be slightly different in smell and color. I believe that is part of the uniqueness of a custom, hand-poured candle. All of our products have an emphasis on organic, high quality ingredients.

Hi! I'm Josh
I created Barrel & Flame Candle Co. in 2023. I wanted to make hand-poured, organic candles that didn't exist anywhere else. So I went in my home shop and got to work!
You may notice that everyone of my products contains the verse from John 8:12. It reads When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
